In the US, most of the time, yes. SE Visible searched 1,000 US brand names on Google three times each in October 2026, and on average 82.5% of them returned an AI Overview. In Germany the figure was 40.4%. When the AI Overview cited the brand's own website, it pointed to the homepage only 36.8% of the time.

What did the study check?

SE Visible published the study on October 22, 2026, written by Yulia Deda. The team took 1,000 US and 1,000 German brand keywords from 17 industries, split almost evenly between small, mid-market and enterprise brands. Each keyword was searched three times on desktop in October 2026. They then looked at the sources cited in 827 US and 405 German AI Overviews.

How often does an AI Overview show up for a brand name?

In the US, the three runs returned an AI Overview for 827, 827 and 820 of the 1,000 keywords, an average of 82.5%. Germany was far lower at 40.4%, so the headline number is a US one.

For industries and company sizes, the study counted only keywords that showed an AI Overview in all three checks. In the US:

  • B2B SaaS and software: 78%
  • Highest industry: electronics and consumer tech, 92%
  • Lowest industry: food and beverages, 58.3%
  • Mid-market brands: 78.7%
  • Small brands: 77.5%
  • Enterprise brands: 70.7%

The authors say the smaller industry groups should be read as directional.

Which of your pages does the AI Overview cite?

Not the one you'd expect. Homepages make up 71.1% of brand-site URLs in the organic top 10, but only 36.8% of brand-site citations in US AI Overviews. Product, service and category pages took 22.9%, and About and company pages 11.7%. The rest went to pages like locations, support docs and blog posts.

The AI Overviews also cited more of a brand's pages than the top 10 showed: 2.57 brand-site pages per AI Overview, against 1.72 brand pages in the organic top 10.

And many of those pages weren't on page one. Of 1,995 brand-website citations in US AI Overviews, only 37.8% pointed to a page that was also in the top 10 for that search. The other 62.2% came from pages that didn't rank there. As the authors note, that doesn't mean they don't rank at all, only that they weren't in the top 10.

Where else does the AI Overview pull from?

61% of all citations in US AI Overviews came from places the brand either manages or can publish on:

  • Brand-managed, 40.5%: the website (33.8%), app store listings (4%) and Google Business Profile (2.7%)
  • Places brands can publish or respond, 20.8%: social and video platforms (18.1%, mostly YouTube) and review sites (2.7%)

So a good part of what Google says about your brand comes from pages you can shape.

What doesn't the study show?

  • A snapshot: desktop results, two countries, one month.
  • Presence, not results: it measures whether an AI Overview appears and what it cites, not answer accuracy, traffic or conversions.
  • Top 10 only: cited pages outside the top 10 may still rank further down.

What should you do with this?

  1. Google your own brand name: read the AI Overview and note which of your pages, and which other sites, it cites.
  2. Keep the likely pages current: the authors point to the homepage, product pages and About page.
  3. Tidy your other profiles: keep app store listings, Google Business Profile, YouTube and review profiles accurate, as the authors advise.
  4. Give each offer its own clear page: with a homepage behind only about a third of brand-site citations, a page per product or service that answers buyer questions directly is worth investigating.
